Less Than Lethal Police Tactics |

The LTL (Less then Lethal) program is a highly effective defensive tactics program designed to allow law enforcement officers to safely control the most dangerous of criminal suspects. Based heavily upon principles from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Combat Submission Wrestling, the course addresses an undeniable fact almost always ignored by traditional defensive tactics programs taught in most police academy settings: most struggles with violent criminal suspects end up on the ground.
Case in point -- The Los Angeles Police Department recently conducted a 5 year study involving more that 5,617 use of force incidents. The LAPD concluded that in nearly two-thirds of these incidents, both the officer and suspect ended up on the ground. The study also found that when an officer employed techniques that were inappropriate and/or ineffectual, the fight was more likely to move to the floor. Lastly, the study found a positive correlation between extremely long and/or violent encounters and ground fighting.
Traditionally, the mindset of law enforcement tactical trainers has been to have officers focus on keeping their weapons turned away from a suspect and to concentrate solely upon stand up techniques. This often works well in a controlled training environment. Unfortunately, in the real world, we cannot always dictate our preferred range during combat with a violent suspect. Furthermore, when attempting to subdue a violent/combative individual what do we do? We bring him to the ground in order to neutralize his attack, subdue, and handcuff him.
The LTL program covers takedowns, handcuffing, weapon retention, knife/gun defense and more. Most importantly, LTL sessions allow police officers to get training repetition in defensive tactics that has been all but eliminated by the tight budgets facing most departments today. Our course allows for plenty of practice time with other officers from departments across the area.
Note: Participants must be active duty law enforcement officers employed by an accredited agency. Cost is $15/per class or free with unlimited Jiu-Jitsu/CSW membership.
